The former Vice President of the Academia Sinica, Academician Shang-Fa Yang, has made remarkable contributions to plant bioscience. His most significant contribution lies in elucidating the biosynthetic pathway and functions of the plant hormone ethylene. The ethylene biosynthesis cycle is widely called the "Yang Cycle" in ethylene biology textbooks worldwide. Academician Yang has also made substantial contributions to the planning and establishment of the AS-BCST. In recognition of his contributions and outstanding achievements in agricultural biotechnology, the conference hall on the first floor of the Southern Campus Research Building (I) has been named the Shang-Fa Yang Lecture Hall.
